LA84 Foundation is a legacy foundation of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

The charitable foundation funds youth sports projects in Southern California to help community development, training coaches and kids in various sports, and boosting life skills, health and fitness and community participation.

LA84 estimates 37,000 children will benefit from the current round of non-profit community projects...

The LA84 Foundation, which continues to invest proceeds from the 84 Games to support non-profit orgs across eight counties in Southern California has awarded $1.5 million in the latest financial quarter that will go to 38 youth sports programmes.

The projects are about opening “doors to kids who might otherwise not have had the opportunity to participate in sports," says Anita L DeFrantz, LA84 Foundation President.

A LAUSD Beyond the Bell Branch programme is the recipient of the largest grant of nearly $500,000 providing sports after school for thousands of kids.

Other recipients include the Gang Reduction and Youth Development (GRYD) Foundation, which applied for a $100,000 grant to finance its Summer Night Lights programme that keeps 32 parks in Los Angeles open during the summer evenings.

The foundation has invested more than $214 million since its launch, and is expected to award nearly $4 million in grants in 2013.
