Zombie charity walk

The 6th annual SLC Zombie Walk involved hundreds of zombie film fans dressed up in zombie costume and makeup staggering around to create a spectacle and raise funds for a local charity food bank...

Donations from the event, a precursor to the annual comic convention: the Salt Lake Comic Con and sponsored by the comic con, were made to the Utah Food Bank in lieu of a cover charge...

The charity walk that started at Pioneer Park was notable for the large gathering of zombies involved, and painstaking makeup from participants...

The organised evening walk around downtown Salt Lake City also attracted a large crowd of spectators...

As well as directing funds to Utah Food Bank the zombie walk event on Sunday August 11 also invited supporters to donate non-perishable food items to the charity...

SLC Zombie Walk spokesperson, Elizabeth Hansen, said:

"The zombie walk is always a fun event... We just have a lot of fun and now we get to work with a great charity..."

Zombie walks for charity have been growing in popularity over the last decade or so, mainly with young film fans...

Created by fans of the film genre the first walks are thought to have originated in North America; however events now take place globally, and are usually for charity...

In the UK there is a dedicated fundraising organisation Zombie Aid that raises funds for charities...

According to the charity Feeding America increasing numbers of Americans have been relying on food banks to help them through hard times...

The beneficiary of the Salt Lake City charity walk, the Utah Food Bank, that has been established for over 100 years, raises funds and receives donations of food supplies... providing millions of meals to those in need each year across the state of Utah...
